The former ballerina accused of murdering her husband heads to trial next week. Ashley Benefield is due in court Tuesday for her final pretrial hearing before a jury decides whether or not she’s guilty of seconddegree murder. In September 2020, Ashley ran to a neighbor's house in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and stated she had just shot her husband. Douglas Benefield had several gunshot wounds to his leg, arm, and chest area. Ashley Benefield claims she shot him in selfdefense after months of alleged abuse.
