AfarTV is excited to bring you the world's first 4K 24/7 Livestream of Mexico's most active & dangerous volcano, and the second highest peak in the country: Popocatépetl Volcano.

This is AfarTV's second , and latest 4K camera that is streaming in realtime from the town of San Pedro Benito Juárez, Mexico, only 10km away from the Popocatépetl Volcano. The close proximity of this camera to the volcano combined with the extreme magnification and 4K resolution will offer a neverbefore realtime view of the volcano 24/7.

25 million people live within 100km of this giant. Popocatépetl is linked to the twin volcano of Iztaccihuatl to the north by the high saddle known as the "Paso de Cortés". Upon request in chat, the camera can be pointed at the Iztaccihuatl Volcano, the third highest peak in Mexico at 5,230 m (17,160 ft), or La Malinche Volcano, the sixth highest peak in Mexico at 4,461 m (14,636 ft).

Volcán Popocatépetl, whose name is the Aztec word for smoking mountain, rises 70 km SE of Mexico City to form North America's 2ndhighest volcano. The glacierclad stratovolcano contains a steepwalled, 400 x 600 m wide crater. The generally symmetrical volcano is modified by the sharppeaked Ventorrillo on the NW, a remnant of an earlier volcano. At least three previous major cones were destroyed by gravitational failure during the Pleistocene, producing massive debrisavalanche deposits covering broad areas to the south. The modern volcano was constructed south of the latePleistocene to Holocene El Fraile cone. Three major Plinian eruptions, the most recent of which took place about 800 CE, have occurred since the midHolocene, accompanied by pyroclastic flows and voluminous lahars that swept basins below the volcano. Frequent historical eruptions, first recorded in Aztec codices, have occurred since PreColumbian time.

This volcano is located within the Las Volcanes, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve property.

Iztaccíhuatl is a dormant volcanic located on the border between the State of Mexico and Puebla within IztaPopo Zoquiapan National Park. It is the nation's third highest, after Pico de Orizaba at 5,636 m (18,491 ft), and Popocatépetl at 5,426 m (17,802 ft).

The name "Iztaccíhuatl" is Nahuatl for "White woman", reflecting the four individual snowcapped peaks which depict the head, chest, knees and feet of a sleeping female when seen from east or west. Iztaccíhuatl is to the north of its twin Popocatépetl, to which it is connected by the high altitude Paso de Cortés. Depending on atmospheric conditions Iztaccíhuatl is visible much of the year from Mexico City some 70 km (43 mi) to the northwest. The first recorded ascent was made in 1889, though archaeological evidence suggests the Aztecs and previous cultures climbed it previously. It is the lowest peak containing permanent snow and glaciers in Mexico.
