A report claims India plans to construct 12 hydropower stations in Arunachal Pradesh. This project is expected to cost a billion dollars. India's Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman could announce the new project in Budget speech on July 23. The new hydropower stations will be built to bridge the gap between supply and demand for power. This new project will also help in the development of India's northeastern state. But today, China has opposed the plan. In an official statement, China said, "South Tibet is China's territory". China has termed the Indian state Arunachal Pradesh as 'South Tibet'. In recent years, China has stepped up its claims on the Indian state which have no basis in history or backing of the international community.
