It is no secret that our firstyear student athletes have had a different first semester than most. Listen in to how Mary Lobon, Eden Gainer, Paige Lauder, and Nicole Stephens have made the most of their first few months on the Columbia Women's Basketball team.

We wanted to give our Lion family a chance to get to know our firstyears and figured this was the best way to do it!

About the Rookies:
Mary Lobon:
Joins the Lions from across the Atlantic in Valencia, Spain ... Brings club experience as a twoyear member and captain of Valencia Basket Club ... Helped lead her team to the league title in 201819, as well as a thirdplace finish at the National Championship ... Prior to joining Valencia Basket, she competed for El Pilar in high school ... Helped El Pilar win two league titles and finish fifth at nationals in 201718 ... Named the Regional Championship Final Four MVP in both 201516 and 201718 ... Off the court, volunteered throughout 2018 and 2019 for the Ronald McDonald House ... Went to Cannes, France to help with environmental conservation at the beaches, and provided academic support for children in neighborhoods where they lacked parental figures or economic stability ... Finished sixth in Spain in the Mathematics National Competition ”Pangea” in 2019, and has also won other academic awards including the Gold Award in the Senior UK Maths Challenge “UKMT” 2020.

Paige Lauder:
Joins the Lions after a fouryear career at Villa Maria Academy High School in the Philadelphia suburbs ... Helped the Hurricanes win the 2019 District 1 Championship after finishing runnerup in 2018 ... Reached 1,000 career points as a junior ... Named First Team AllAACA twice, First Team Daily Local News twice, and was named AACA MVP as a sophomore after averaging 15.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game ... A twosport high school athlete who also played tennis, specializing in doubles as both a freshman and a senior ... On the club circuit, competed for Philadelphia Comets AAU for six seasons ... Off the court, is a member of the National Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society and Math Honors Society.

Nicole Stephens:
Joins the Lions from Pickerington High School Central out in Pickerington, Ohio ... Fouryear letter winner in basketball and oneyear letter winner in softball for the Tigers ... Helped Pickerington to a fourpeat in both conference and district championships during her four years, as well as backtoback regional titles in 2018 and 2019 and the state championship in 2018 ... 201920 team captain ... Twotime AllOhio Capitol Conference selection and twotime AllDistrict 11 honoree ... Named First Team AllCentral District, First Team AllOCC and Third Team AllState ... Scored 30 points against No. 6 ranked Hamilton Heights (TN) ... Over the summers, plays club ball in the West Virginia Under Armour League ... Achieved High Honor Roll in 201617 before earning Distinguished Honor Roll accolades the following two years ... Volunteers in a preschool room at her local church and volunteers with special needs children.

Eden Gainer:
