FILMS AND FEDERATION
   • Post
For the first time on video complete versions of Melbourne's oldest surviving films, assembled conveniently onto a single cassette with a detailed commentary and supporting 'stills'.

Each film has been painstakingly restored, sometimes scene by scene,
and transferred to video directly from the 35mm originals.

Film buffs, students, historians, teachers, documentary producers and the public in general, will find this material useful and fascinating. Every resident of Melbourne will recognise familiar scenes and events in this unfamiliar historical context. You can see:

• 1896 Melbourne Cup with recently discovered additional footage of Flemington railway station);

• Lumiere film of Wellington Parade, East Melbourne circa 1898;

• Royal visit to Melbourne for the first opening of Federal
Parliament, May 1901;

• Swallow and Ariell's factory employees, March 1905 (a rare
Salvation Army production);

• Surviving sections of The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906) our first
narrative 'feature' film;

• Marvellous Melbourne the oldest surviving complete documentary on the city, released 22 December 1910;

• Extracts from the films Living Hawthorn (1907) and Football Final
(1910).
