Conservation needs to be locally driven. No one knows an environment better than the local community living there. More often than not, protecting an area is not just environmentally important, but also culturally and economically important. Therefore, protecting important ecosystems like coral reefs requires buyin and engagement from the local community. TNC and its partners work closely with local communities to honor their traditional knowledge and expertise and empower them to protect what’s important to all of us.
