This patient wanted help for his receding hairline. The advancement of his hair loss also caused the top part of his head to thin.

Dr. Umar restored hair in these regions by performing Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and his own proprietary tool called uGraft. 1500 grafts were derived from the head and nape.

In FUE, doctors will extract natural groupings of 14 hair follicles (called follicular units) directly from the scalp or other area of the body.

In conventional strip surgery, doctors will excise a horizontal strip of hair bearing skin from the back (or sides) of the head. This is then divided into individual grafts. However, individuals are left with a linear scar.

The patient in this video discusses an interaction with an acquaintance who underwent strip surgery for the restoration of his hair. "I told him that I had a surgery. He couldn't believe it at first. And then he said, well, where is your scar? And I said look at it. And he looked for five minutes. He could not believe he couldn't find one spot on my head where it looked like there was a cut, or a scar or anything that looked damaged."

Another advantage to using Follicular Unit Extraction is it's versatility. Doctors can be selective about the type of hair they want to use to create the final result. Since the hairline is what people notice the most, it is important to create a natural quality.

This is achieved by using finer hairs from the back of the neck which are used to create a soft feathered look at the outer edge of the hairline. With strip surgery, this cannot be done.

The patient is very pleased with his new hairline. In his younger years, his hairline ran straight across his forehead, making it look bigger than what he would have liked. The point helps to balance out the height of his forehead.
