Here are a few vhs recordings from a lost Muppet Show tv special called The Best of the Muppets. According to the Muppet Wiki the special aired on the ITV network on April 9, 1977, and was a compilation of clips from the first season of the show, as well as new content such as an introduction from Kermit the Frog announcing, "It's The Muppet Show, tonight starring the best of the Muppets!" (later used on A Muppet Crew Presentation), and a bumper displaying The Muppet Show logo against a solid yellow background which bookended commercial breaks. A deleted scene from Season 1 that never aired prior on television was also included in the special which is shown after Sam the Eagle's introduction seen in episode 103, of Wayne and Wanda, who sing "Dancing in the Dark" only for all of the lights to suddenly go out in the ballroom. Statler remarks that they'd rather make a good football team.

Many segments are slightly longer at the beginning or end, and there is some alternate and additional footage. The sound mix is also unique (laugh track etc), as are the wipes between segments.

In 2022, (at least according to the Wayback Machine) a page of the special was created on the Muppet Wiki, with a screenshot of a title card of the Muppet Show cast and Jim Henson as well as a screenshot of the deleted scene from Season 1. On April 4, 2024, archive.org user tygerbug uploaded two clips of the special from a vhs recording, which was the opening of the special and the deleted scene of Wayne and Wanda singing Dancing in the Dark. As of now these are only existing recordings from the special that’s available online which the rest of the special is completely lost. It’s possible someone out there does have a full recording of the special but has yet to upload it online. So until the full special surfaces on the Internet this piece of Muppets history remains completely lost.
