Join me on bright and breezy day in the Yorkshire Wolds, England, as we walk through the small peaceful village of Foston on the Wolds and into the countryside passing Foston Beck and the stunning mill pond along the way.

This was a surprising walk with a lovely treat at the end after finding a mysterious door which led to a long walk through the countryside beside a crystal clear beck. Look out for the family of swans enjoying their day.

Foston on the Wolds is a small village located in the East Riding of Yorkshire situated approximately 6 miles east of the market town of Driffield and 10 miles west of the coastal town of Bridlington.

The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, has a population of around 200 people and has a rich history dating back to the 11th century. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book and was once home to a medieval castle. Today, the castle is in ruins, but visitors can still see the remains of the castle walls and the moat. The village also has a beautiful church, St. Andrew's, which dates back to the 12th century. The church is a Grade II listed building and is a popular destination for visitors to the village.

Kelly Beck turns into Foston Beck as it reaches the village and rushes into the pretty mill pond by the Mill House, which forms part of Mill Farm. It is an early nineteenth century brick structure, with a pantiled roof, consisting of two storeys and a basement.

Foston Beck provided a source of water for milling for centuries. A mill is known to have been in operation as far back as 1086 and later a new mill was built on the site in 1747. Access to the mill was possible by boat along Foston Beck from the Driffield Navigation.
