Lord Sri Krishna assumed the fearsome form of Lord Narasimha to protect his dear devotee Prahlada Maharaja from the torture inflicted by his demonic father Hiranyakasipu who devised continuous evil plans to dispose of his devotee son of Krishna.

prahlādāhlādadāyine
hiraṇyakaśipor vakṣaḥ
śilāṭańkanakhālaye

I offer my obeisances to Lord Narasimha, who brings joy to Prahlada Maharaja and whose nails are like chisels in stone, as in the chest of the demon Hiranyakasipu.

ito nṛsiḿhaḥ parato nṛsiḿho
yato yato yāmi tato nṛsiḿhaḥ
bahir nṛsiḿho hṛdaye nṛsiḿho
nṛsiḿham ādiḿ śaraṇaḿ prapadye

Lord Nrsimha is here and also there. Wherever you go Lord Nrsimha is there. He is in the heart and is outside as well. I surrender myself to Lord Nrsimha, the origin of all things and the supreme refuge.

tava karakamalavare nakham adbhutaśṛńgaḿ
dalitahiraṇyakaśiputanubhṛńgam
keśava dhṛtanaraharirūpa jaya jagadīśa hare

O Keshava! Oh Lord of the universe! O Lord Hari who have assumed the form of half man, half lion, all glory to You! Lust can be easily crushed like a wasp between your fingernails, so in the same way that the wasp's body, well that of the demon Hiranyakashipu, has been torn apart by the wonderful pointed nails on its beautiful lotus hands.
