Margaret of Valois First Wife Of Henri IV Of France: Margaret of Valois was born on 14 May 1553 in SaintGermainenLaye and died on 27 March 1615 in Paris. She is also known as la Reine Margot, was Queen of France and Navarre and Duchess of Valois.

Her life was marked by scandal, intrigue and tragedy. Married to the Huguenot King Henry of Navarre as a devout member of the Catholic Church, she was a pawn of religious and political parties in the struggle for power in France throughout her life due to the French Wars of Religion.

Margaret maintained an unconventional lifestyle for her time, which contributed to numerous rumors at the French royal court. She herself did not counter this gossip, so that her person was often portrayed in later publications as vicious and immoral. Today's historians, however, attest that she merely took liberties that were usually customary only for male members of the nobility at the time.
