Maria De Medici Mother Of Louis XIII: Maria de Medici was born on April 26, 1575 in the Palazzo Pitti in Florence and died on July 3, 1642 in Cologne. She was a descendant of the powerful and wealthy Florentine Medici family and was the second wife of the French King Henry IV. From 1600 onward, she was Queen of France. In 1601 she gave birth to the later Louis XIII. After the assassination of Henry IV in 1610, she became regent of France for the underage king Louis XIII. Despite her attempts to keep him away from the throne, her son became the active ruler of France in 1617. She was exiled and had to leave France at the end of her life.
