Auf der MY BLUE STORM ging es zu den Brother lslands, zum DaedalusRiff und legendären Elphinstone Riff.

"El Akawein" ist der arabische Name für die Brother Islands, zwei Bergspitzen einer UnterwasserKammlinie, die aus dem Wasser herausragen. Die Inseln befinden sich ca. 67 km entfernt von der ägyptischen Küste mitten im Roten Meer. Big Brother, wo ein Leuchtturm den vorbeifahrenden Schiffen den Weg weist, ist nur ca. 100 m breit und 500 m lang. Mit ein wenig Glück kann man hier Fuchshaien begegnen, aber auch diversen anderen Haiarten. Zudem können hier zwei der besten Wracks im Roten Meer betaucht werden: Die Aida liegt auf einer Tiefe zwischen 2060 m. Sie hatte Vorräte für den Leuchtturm geladen als 1957 auf das Riff am Steg von Big Brother lief. An der nördlichsten Spitze des Big Brother liegt die Numidia. Sie wird auch als „Railway Wrack“ bezeichnet, aufgrund der 2 Lokomotivräder, die sie als Fracht trägt
Little Brother ist eine etwas kleinere Insel, mit einer spektakulären Unterwasserwelt. Am nördlichen Ende erstreckt sich ein kleines Plateau ins Blaue. In 40 m Tiefe gibt es eine kleine Felszunge, an der sich eine stets gut besuchte Putzerstation befindet.

Daedalus Reef liegt ca. 96 km von der ägyptischen Küste entfernt. In der Mitte des Riffs ragt ein Leuchtturm empor, das Einzige, was man am Horizont für viele Kilometer in jede Richtung sehen kann. Hier sind die Chancen gut, einen Longimanus (WeißspitzenHochseehai) zu begegnen, da ein reviertreuer Hai zuverlässig jeden Nachmittag am Riff erscheint. Andere Haie und Thunfische sind ebenso regelmäßig zu sehen, außerdem eine riesige Thorn Coral. Überall am Riff gibt es eine sehr große Vielfalt an Fischen und die vertikalen, fast invertierten Wände, die üppig mit Weichkorallen und Gorgonien bewachsen sind, bieten einige der überwältigendsten Tauchgänge im Roten Meer. Ein Besuch des 1861 von den Briten erbauten Leuchtturms ist kostenlos möglich. Der Blick von oben über das weite Meer ist atemberaubend, wenn man nicht bereits beim Erklimmen der vielen Stufen außer Atem gekommen ist. Aber der beschwerliche Aufstieg ist es wert!

Elphinstone, das legendäre Riff des Roten Meeres, gilt als einer der 10 besten Tauchspots weltweit und ist aufgrund seiner Lage im offenen Meer mit teilweise stärkeren Strömungen auch einer der anspruchsvolleren. Das Riff ist besonders für seine unbeschreibliche Artenvielfalt und das Vorkommen von Großfisch bekannt, darunter Hammerhaie und Grauspitzenhaie.

On MY BLUE STORM we went to the Brother lslands, Daedalus Reef and the legendary Elphinstone Reef.

"El Akawein" is the Arabic name for the Brother Islands, two mountain peaks of an underwater ridge line jutting out of the water. The islands are located about 67 km from the Egyptian coast in the middle of the Red Sea. Big Brother, where a lighthouse shows the way to passing ships, is only about 100 meters wide and 500 meters long. With a little luck you can meet thresher sharks here, but also various other shark species. In addition, two of the best wrecks in the Red Sea can be dived here: The Aida lies at a depth of between 2060 meters. She had loaded supplies for the lighthouse when she ran onto the reef at the jetty of Big Brother in 1957. At the northernmost tip of Big Brother lies the Numidia. Little Brother is a slightly smaller island, with spectacular marine life. At the northern end, a small plateau extends into the blue. At a depth of 40 m there is a small rocky outcrop where there is an always well visited cleaning station.

Daedalus Reef is located about 96 km from the Egyptian coast. A lighthouse towers in the middle of the reef, the only thing visible on the horizon for many kilometers in any direction. Here the chances of encountering a Longimanus (oceanic whitetip shark) are good, as a territorial shark reliably appears on the reef every afternoon. Other sharks and tunas are also regularly seen, as well as a huge Thorn Coral. Throughout the reef there is a very large variety of fish and the vertical, almost inverted walls, lush with soft corals and gorgonians, offer some of the most stunning diving in the Red Sea. A visit to the lighthouse, built by the British in 1861, is free of charge. The view from the top over the vast sea is breathtaking, if you are not already out of breath climbing the many steps. But the arduous climb is worth it!

Elphinstone, the legendary reef of the Red Sea, is considered one of the 10 best diving spots worldwide and is also one of the more challenging ones due to its location in the open sea with sometimes stronger currents. The reef is especially known for its indescribable biodiversity and the presence of large fish, including hammerhead sharks and gray tip sharks.
