Below is a description of the genesis of the model by the builder/pilot:

Well the days have been Hot so the cure for that is to stay in the shop because it's airconditioned. I started on a new project a little while back, having seen on the internet an R/C flying superman. I thought that it was really cool and I wanted to build one but was not able to find much information on it. About 10 years ago you could buy a kit, but the outfit that sold them went out of business, so I started researching on the internet for as much information as I could.
I finally found a set of drawings, downloaded them and imported them into autocad and redrew them. I noticed a lot of problems with the tabs not lining up with the slots so I basically used the general outline but redesigned everything else so it fit together easily. I decided on using foam board from the dollar store for material which comes in sheets of 20 inches by 30 Inches and is about 3/16 thick. With the design done, next I needed a way to accurately cut out the parts, but that started another project! I now needed a laser cutting machine that could cut at least 20 x 30 inches. So I got a machine from Billy that he had started working on but never finished. I got that working and used it to cut out the RC superman parts and commenced building. It has a 70mm EDF and a 80amp ESC and will use a 4S 2200mah battery. I'm using an EDF because superman is not supposed to sound like an airplane but he makes a Woossshhh sound when he flies!
