Drawing on his nine years as a librarian for the Marshall Foundation, Paul Barron will share his views on some of the more popular Marshall myths such as the “Black Book” in which Marshall supposedly kept the names of officers he would later select to serve as generals in World War II and Marshall’s reaction to not being selected by President Roosevelt to lead the invasion of Normandy. He will also use the framework of the American public’s changing perception of Marshall over time to discuss aspects of Marshall’s life that are not as well known including his views on the press, his refusal to write memoirs, his efforts to improve the country’s military preparedness, and his disinterest in running for political office.
