In this video, I, Tommy Schröter, share my experiences and insights into the Baseline Driver Training method. As a former professional racing driver turned coach and sports psychologist, I've spent years training drivers of all levels to enhance their performance on the track.
I begin by discussing the limitations of traditional training methods, which often focus on reviewing video footage and data before heading out onto the track. However, I found this approach lacking compared to the targeted drills utilized in other sports like handball. To address this issue, I developed the Baseline Driver Training program, which hones in specifically on pedal input – refining techniques such as braking, trail braking and throttle adaption.
Transitioning from realworld racing to iRacing posed its challenges, as the driving style required was notably different. Despite analyzing data and video, initially, I struggled to match the pace of faster drivers.
However, by leveraging the Baseline Driver Training program and utilizing data from skilled sim driver Kevin Nielsen from FYRA SimSport, I embarked on a journey to learn a new driving style. Integrating Kevin's data into my training allowed me to focus solely on improving my pedal input. I witnessed significant improvements in my driving style and lap times.
My experience highlights the importance of patience and precision in mastering pedal control. Overcoming ingrained habits takes time and conscious effort. Despite the initial hurdles, my commitment to the Baseline Driver Training method yielded tangible results in my driving performance.
