#EnkiriEliteFitness #ExerciseVariation
Exercise variation in training is a concept that creates a lot of controversy. On the one hand, there are the guys with training ADD who change things up pretty much every single session. This makes it impossible to create or even track progress in the gym. On the other hand, there are the minimalists. The guys who say you only really need 4 or 5 different exercises and you can run those same exercises forever and make all the progress you're going to make. But that's a tough ask. Perhaps the optimal solution lies somewhere in the middle though.

Rotating through big lifts after each training block or two (or sometimes even within a training block) by making small but important changes to the tried and true compound exercises (changing the grip, changing the stance, adding a pause or two, using a specialty bar, etc.) can have a profoundly positive impact on your overall program and the results you get from your training in the long run. There is no reason to continually bash your head against the wall performing the same stale exercises month in and month out when making minor changes can completely reignite progress.

And one of the little discussed reasons for this is that changing up the variation you're using has a way of removing the ego from the equation. There's no baseline when you start using a new variation. When you do a variation that you're very familiar with or that you've done in recent history you already have that baseline, and you're always going to compare everything that you do on that exercise against the previous baseline. But the thing is, most guys lift too heavy too frequently. Or they do too many reps with percentages that are too high. And ultimately they keep redlining the engine over and over and over again because they're trying so desperately to keep up with what they THINK they should be able to do on a particular exercise because of their past history with that exercise.

But the point is the ego gets in the way, and changing it up to something a little bit less familiar can help to take at least some of that ego out of the equation which can actually help you to make better progress in the long run because when you start training with weights that are more appropriate for you progress suddenly skyrockets...
