EAST COAST SAILING

Hi & Welcome to East Coast Sailing. Come and join me on day 4 of the sailing adventure as i sail 600NM solo over the course of 2 weeks. Im trying to get to Channel Islands after leaving my home port of Tollesbury based in Essex. I have previously attempted this journey twice and failed due to high winds. My aim is to land on Alderney where i will go on to explore Guernsey & Sark.

Todays episode departs from Brighton where ill be sailing 60NM in 9 hours. I sailed past Worthing, Chichester, Hyaling Island, Bembridge & Portsmouth. I also sailed past the Spitbank Forts. I had intended to stay at Yarmouth marina however after calling up and being assured they had berths available, they only had rafting left. After 4 days of sailing solo i needed a good night rest and headed over to Lymington where they had a berth. During the short hop across the Solent, my boat was shuddering, the engine developed a serious vibration which threatened to end the trip the day before the crossing with the only good weather window. I also discuss some of the navigational hazards of sailing in the UK.
