The Game Archivist

Today it is exactly 80 years ago that the Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normany to liberate Europe. In honor of that I wanted to archive some WW2 classics and to many the top of the line are Medal of Honor Allied Assault and Frontline. I have played both and though most would agree that Allied Assault is their favorite, I actually prefer Fronltine.
I remember when this game came out and how cinematic it was with its presentation. The opening level of Omaha Beach had such an amazing scope and epic feeling to it. The sound deisgn was also on point and overall it was a magnificent product that was made by some of the best developers in the FPS genre.
What makes Fronltine truly special to me is the attention to detail. There are so many cool moments that add to the atmosphere and feel like a labor of love just to immerse the player. Events like a German soldier who is so drunk that he just stumbles across the room with his glass of beer and does not shoot you while his sober buddies fire at you. Or certain animations like an enemy soldier that tries to shoot you but his gun is jammed. You should also look at how many different skins there are for the enemy types. There are many, many more skins with the enemy soldiers than some modern FPS games nowadays. You have skins and models for regular soldiers, submarine crew, kitchen chefs, officers, scientists, sailors, train crew, waiters and even more.
The levels themselves are also awesome with great atmosphere and fun objectives to perform. It can sometimes be a bit confusing and there is a chance that you forget to pick up a key item and have to walk all the way back to retrieve it. But other than that its a great experience and one that I have completed many times. Towards the end the levels get a bit spammy with the enemy amount and the last 3040 minutes are definitely the weakest part of the game, but up until that part it is an amazing experience that still holds up.
