I've been tracking Mezkalin Lightshows (real name Janes) for years, since 2018 or 2019, and I have observed his gradual transformation into a top contributor to the analog video glitch art scene. Upon moving to the EU, I knew that making a video about him was something I had to do. So in July 2023, I traveled to the Western border of Germany and recorded some footage in his lab and a halfhour interview to try and better understand his approach to making video gear, and what drives him to do it. The result I believe is memorable and inspiring not just for video art enthusiasts, but for all artists.
