Ruthe Ashley, '88, devotes her time to supporting diversity in the legal profession. Ashley is now retired, but continues to serve as the executive director emeritus at the California Legal Pathways Collaborative, where she helps create a pipeline of students from high schools, community colleges, undergraduate institutions and law schools into law or lawrelated careers. She started the diversity pipeline project in 2010.

Ashley has had numerous leadership roles throughout her career. Notably, she created the role of Chief Diversity Officer for CalPERS to help build a pipeline into law and financial services.

Ashley’s first career was as a nurse and nursing professor. A 1988 graduate of McGeorge School of Law, she became a lawyer at the age of 41 and was a litigator for 15 years before returning to her alma mater as the Assistant Dean for Career Services from 20012008.
