Partial transcript

On September 22nd, 2008, Capcom brought its original superstar back from the dead. Well, maybe not the absolute first character in their stable, but the oldest one that had the most impact on the company: Mega Man! Known in Japan as Rockman.

20 years after hitting the scene, the Blue Bomber was back with all new adventure. OK. More like 21 years. After all, Rockman was first released in Japan on December 17th, 1987. We all know the history from there so there’s no need to go too deep into detail, but if somebody were happily playing Mega Man 1 on a warm Summer’s night back in 1988, and suddenly went into a coma until 2008, and saw the ninth… NINTH!! Mega Man game, which looks exactly like the first one, he or she might be asking just what the heck happened!?

I would tell that 21st Century Rip van Winkle this: Mega Man was a huge game series back in the 8 bit days. It was so popular that there were 6 games in 6 years! The games had some improvements, like the Mega Buster, and helpers like Rush, Beat and Eddie, but the core game, The struggle of Dr. Light versus Dr. Wily and most notably the graphics never changed! Partly because to keep up with the demanding pace of putting out annual installments, there wasn’t any time to make those changes, and things worked so well, maybe they didn’t need much changing after all.

Footage provided by official game trailers, or website sources. Some gameplay assistance by Pietro soft. Music taken straight from the Rockman 9 CD soundtrack from the ECan Sound Collection.
