Melbourne1991-11 Light Rail to St Kilda

Follow
citytransportinfo

The theme behind this film is the converted railway to St Kilda, which is served by tram route No.96.

Locations with video footage include Albert Park station and Wright Street tramstop, plus there are tram rides and more. The video footage dates from March 1991.

The film also includes some still images, most of which were filmed in May 1988 and these include Middle Park station (with the protest message about making peoples stumps bleed*) and Clarendon Street including the disused railway bridge with the protest slogan saying that it should be saved for a fast and historic train service.

The first tram seen has a passenger surfing on it!

*The trains were accessible to wheelchairs but in those days the trams were not, so some passengers were not at all pleased that they could no longer travel over that rail line.
