After experiencing years of debilitating sickle cell disease (SCD) symptoms, Wunmi Bakare decided to undergo an allogeneic stem cell transplant. The recovery process that followed her procedure was an emotionally complex and unique mental health journey. Many struggle with social and emotional issues like isolation, survivor’s guilt or identity crises.
