I've had several requests over the last 6 months to do a video on my methods of metering. So as I was trying to figure out how best to go about it, I just decided to start at the very beginning as there may well be some viewers out there who could benefit. Regardless of whether you're a film or digital shooter, this info is fundamental to understanding how metering works and how you can apply this understanding to more advanced techniques (which I'll cover in Part 2).

In the process, I'll cover incident and reflected light metering, gray cards, and how to set a manual exposure on a couple of vintage cameras specifically a Minolta SRT 102 and a Canon EOS1.
