Microfreak - 3DWaves Nanobod Case mod: a simple and reversible case mod for keyboard removal

This is a purely informational video looking at how I removed the keyboard from the Arturia Microfreak and covered the newly exposed internals with the Nanobod case from 3DWaves.

I love the Microfreak. In fact, I have 2 of them. But I didn't love the keyboard. I didn't hate it, but I just wasn't using it. I also love small desktop synth boxes and wish that more were available.

Removing the keyboard from the Microfreak is actually extremely easy. This Nanobod case bolts on to the Microfreak to cover the newly exposed electronics. It uses the same screws that are removed from the Microfreak and, best of all, is completely reversible.

This case mod makes the Microfreak almost the exact same dimensions as the Roland Boutiques. In fact, I am using a dual Boutique stand to hold my Microfreaks and they fit ALMOST perfectly. Your mileage may vary of course, so always double check your dimensions.

Again, this video is merely my document of what I did! I am not encouraging you to do this or play around with the internals of electronic devices! This will also void your warranty! I am not responsible for anything that might go wrong, be it with your synth or yourself, if you go ahead and do this or anything like it. If you ignore this and try this yourself, do NOT keep the unit plugged in when working on it! Take photos of your work so you know what you have done! Also, keep the screws and KEEP THE KEYBOARD! Apparently, reattaching the keyboard is required for SOME firmware updates. Anyway, you might change your mind and want the keyboard back, so just hold onto the keyboard!

Questions or comments? Go ahead below! I love talking about this stuff and am happy to help.

Also, consider helping out a genuine, small, self funded YouTube synth channel and subscribe. It's always appreciated and helpful.

Cheers!
