Should you have a trip on the Midland Pullman? We travelled on the Torbay Riviera Pullman last month, Carlisle Paignton and return but joining and alighting at Preston (31st May 2024). Posh seats were sold out for dining but in 1st Class with umpteen packed snack boxes that are included plus some fizz and an excellent value menu (bargain bacon roll / sausage sandwich for £3.50) you’re not going to go hungry!

The journey on the uber comfortable MK3s traveled via Crewe and Shrewsbury then down to Bristol and past Dawlish before peeling off on the Paignton branch just after Teignmouth.

Famous for the Dartmouth Steam Railway we had to have a look at that and the beaches (Goodrington Sands is such a fantastic location with an good gradient as you’ll see!) before grabbing an icecream and a beer before returning north. Pullman Ale from the fabulously styled buffet car is also worth a try!

Should you go on the Midland Pullman then? Most definitely. Most enjoyable, luxury travel and a bargain as the same journey on the regular rail network would actually cost much more in standard class, never mind first!
