The MIG29 is not suited to engage small targets such as the Shahed or cruise missiles since the aircraft's avionics and radar system are not very advanced. So F16s are critical for Ukraine as an offensive strategy and to intercept missiles and cruise bombs beyond Ukrainian territories, potentially saving the lives of thousands of civilians.
