Mister Mulligan Dumas Rubber Power Build

The original “Mister” Mulligan (Howard DGA6) was specifically designed and built in the USA to win a 1935 cross country air race. It won that race and a second air race in the same year.

I found this Dumas kit with a 17.5 inch wingspan in a local hobby store. I made a few minor modifications including some extra strengthening to the wing, fuselage and cowling. I also added control surfaces and made them adjustable with the use of light bendable wire hinges (the wire is glued in place and made from garbage bag twist ties, works really well). I made my own windshield template from paper and adjusted it to fit before cutting out the shape from the clear plastic provided. Some of the decals were scanned and printed on tissue. The balance was just right without making any adjustments and the finished weight came in at 40g. This was a fun model to build although I would not recommend it for a beginner as I found it challenging to keep the box style fuselage straight and square.
