Hello artists, in today's video I'll be doing a fun exercise where I painted two identical oil painting studies one using a 12 color palette and the other using only a 5 color palette. This is to show that practicing with a limited palette of 3 chromatic primary colors (in my case I chose red, yellow, and blue) plus black and white can help you learn color mixing and color theory, and you can even create a huge gamut of many more colors just from those 3 starting colors. This video is perfect for any artist looking to get more familiar with color mixing or artists looking to save money and buy only a few versatile paints that can create the maximum amount of potential colors.
