India's over 200 million Dalits have been mobilised by social movements and political parties, but the outcomes of this mobilisation are somewhat puzzling. Dr Pratap Bhanu Mehta, one of India’s foremost public intellectuals and Professor of Political Science at Ashoka University, and Amit Ahuja, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of California, talk about how voters from the marginalised communities think of their own sense of agency and their own identities and how it relates to a contemporary India.
