Modeling an Ivy Plant with Helix along Curve and Random Tools – Sketchup Timelapse Tutorial

Follow
Sketchup Style

Today it’s Ivy Plant modeling time I know the leaves are not Ivylike but getting the leaf part right is not the point of the video. I’m sure you can make leaves the way you like them by following modeling principles seen in this video

This video is a part of the Random object modeling series. You can check out the rest of the series on this link    • Random Objects

Extensions (plugins) I’m using in this video:
JHS Powerbar
Helix Along Curve – Tutorial here:    • Memory Copy, Helix Along Curve, Rando...
Vertex Tools
Curviloft – Tutorial here:    • Curviloft for Sketchup – 2 minute Tut...
Solar North – Tutorial here:    • Solar North, Shape Bender, Scale by T...
FredoToo – ThruPaint
Random tools – Tutorial here:    • Memory Copy, Helix Along Curve, Rando...
Vray for Sketchup

If you want to follow along with all the steps, and recreate this exact model yourself, I suggest you set the speed of the video to 0,25. That way you can follow the tutorial with no problem. But If you’re just here for the speed build timelapse, just sit back and enjoy the video as is, or you can even double the speed.
The rendering is done with Vray plugin for sketchup, but I keep it extremely simple. I just decrease the intensity of the light, increase the size of the sun to get that soft shadows effect and work around refraction and reflection of the materials.
In the lower left corner of your screen you can see what I’m typing but beware, I don’t use Sketchup default shortcuts as you’ll probably notice, but I’ll list all my custom shortcuts right below.

Here is the full list:

Ctrl+1 Select tool
Ctrl+Q Draw line
Shift+A Draw arc
Ctrl+W Mirror tool (plugin)
Ctrl+Shift+X Move tool
Ctrl+Shift+A Offset tool
Ctrl+R (or R) Rotate tool
