Moment in hell
❤ Today a story about a real man of flesh and blood, whom I had the honor to meet in person.
During the war, Edmund Szenkowski was arrested. He was imprisoned in Sosnowiec, then to the labor camp in Jelcz and to a branch of the GrossRosen camp a subcamp in Fünfteichen. He built barracks and ditches. He worked as an assistant to a German, Emil Hoppe, who shared his food with him. Then he was transferred to the labor camp in Walim, where he worked on the construction of the Riese facility. In 1945, together with other prisoners, he was evacuated to Police, and then transported to the north of Germany. He was in a very serious condition, he miraculously survived.
When he returned to Będzin, he found out that his father had been shot and his mother and sister had died in Auschwitz. Only his brother survived. Here is the story.
