Palmdale is located in the Antelope Valley in northern Los Angeles County. City population is 165,761. The most important industry for Palmdale is the aerospace industry. Many manufacturing companies have relocated to Palmdale seeking more affordable land, proximity to Palmdale Airport, and special tax breaks. Palmdale refers to itself with the nickname the "aerospace capital of the United States". The city has been the site of research, development, assembly and testing of the Space Shuttle, B21 Raider, F117 Nighthawk, F22 Raptor, and many other aircraft.

Palmdale is home to major operations of aerospace companies: Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. Largest employers: Lockheed Martin (3,700), Northrop Grumman (2,100) and Antelope Valley Mall (1,800).

The Antelope Valley has a history of famous residents of the film and music industry, such as John Wayne, Frank Zappa and Judy Garland.

Some of the best neighborhoods in Palmdale are Rancho Vista, Anaverde and Joshua Hills.
