Detailed and simplified lecture on Muscles of gluteal region. The gluteal region includes the following muscles
GLUETUS MAXIMUS,GLUTEUS MEDIUS,GLUTEUS MINIMUS, OBTURATOR INTERNUS AND EXTERNUS,SUPERIOR AND INFERIOR GEMELLUS,QUADRATUS FEMORIS AND TENSOR FASCIA LATAE.
Orgin,insertion,nerve supply and actions of muscles are discussed in detail. There are total 10 muscles and gluteus maximus is largest muscle in gluteal region as well as in body.This muscles are supplied by superior and inferior gluteal nerves as well as other nerves like nerve to obturator internus etc.
Weakness of gluteus maximus produce lurching gait or maharajas gait, whereas weakness of glutues medius produce trendelenburg gait. The entrapment of sciatic nerve with piriformis muscle produces Piriformis syndrome
