Musical Performance: Master the Tempest Is Raging | 2017

Christopher Madsen performs "Master, the Tempest Is Raging" at the May 23, 2017, BYU devotional.

Thoughts from Madsen on arranging the piece:
"A little background behind the song: when I returned home from my mission, I was asked to play a musical number in sacrament meeting. When I presented my first version of "Master, the Tempest" to my wise music mentor (my mom), she had the boldness to say, "It's not quite right." The second time around, it came out the way it needed to. So I can really only credit God and my mom for getting this song right. :)

"I remember a time on my mission when I felt utterly defeated. One day I was sitting in sacrament meeting in the wonderful branch of Clinton, North Carolina, and I was struck by the phrase in the hymn that 'no waters can swallow the ship where lies / the master of ocean and earth and skies.' It changed my life."

Music by H. R. Palmer, 1834–1907
Arranged by Christopher J. Madsen
