From July 9th, 2022. Having noticed it in photos on Facebook from another mutual friend of mine that this exact same train amtrak 58 had came north thru his hometown going Chicago the previous morning with a brand new amtrak locomotive leading it i knew i had to try to see it go back on the same train which was amtrak 59 and boy was I lucky as it was still on there. Here’s the first of two videos I took of Amtrak 59 the southbound city of New Orleans arriving into Centralia Illinois station on the Canadian National Chicago to New Orleans mainline via CN main track 2 at 12:42 am 19 minutes late. Amtrak 59’s lead engine is one of the brand new Siemens charger long distance ALC42 units number 307, then it’s followed by a regular amtrak P42 genesis unit number 79, then trailing both locomotives are 7 superliner cars, 4th car is my favorite a bombardier sightseer lounge car with the walk through grab, pay, & go snack bar downstairs. This was also my very first time ever seeing one of these several new amtrak long distance ALC42 charger engines. I really love the new amtrak phase VI paint scheme on it a lot too. Two other friends of mine named Robbie Welsh, and Kaleb Schafer were also here too for this train. Amtrak appears to be testing these new ALC42 charger engines in long distance service for now to see how it all turns out for them in the long run. Eventually many more new ALC42 charger engines exactly like this one are ultimately going to replace the entire aging fleet of amtrak genesis units on all amtrak long distance trains.
