The appearances of Montichiari begin in 1947.

Montichiari (Monte Luminoso), a small town in northern Italy 20 km. from Brecia, the diocesan seat, is situated at the foot of the Italian Alps, on the fertile plain of the Po River.

Her first appearance.

Pierina Guilli, born on August 3, 1911, was a nurse. In the spring of 1947, a very beautiful lady appeared to her, wearing a purple tunic and covering her head with a white veil, her chest was pierced by three swords, her face was sad. Her face was sad. Tears were running down to the ground. Her sweet lips opened to say: "Prayer, Penance, reparation" and she kept silent.

Second apparition.

On Sunday, July 13, 1947, in the hospital, the Mother of God appeared again. She was dressed in white and instead of the three swords, three roses, white, red and gold, adorned her chest. Pierina asked her in amazement, "Please tell me who you are." With a sweet smile the lady replied, "I am the Mother of Jesus and mother of you all." After a pause she continued, "Our Lord sent me to implant a new Marian devotion in all the institutes both male and female, in the religious communities and in all the priests. I promise you that if you venerate me in this special way, you will particularly enjoy my protection, there will be a flowering of religious vocations. I desire that the 13th day of each month be consecrated to me as a Marian day and the preceding twelve serve as a preparation with special prayers." Her face lit up with inexplicable joy and she continued, "On that day I will pour out an overabundance of graces and holiness on those who would have thus honored me. I wish that the 13th of July of every year be dedicated in honor of Rosa Mystica."

He then explained to her the meaning of the three swords:

1 The first sword, signifies the guilty loss of the priestly or religious vocation.
2 The second sword, the life in mortal sin of persons consecrated to God.
3 The third sword, the betrayal of those people who by abandoning their priestly or religious vocation, also lose their faith and become enemies of the church.

The meaning of the roses:
The white rose symbolizes the spirit of prayer.
The red rose, the spirit of reparation and sacrifice.
The golden or yellow rose, the spirit of penance.
Third apparition, October 22, 1947.

In the chapel of the hospital of Montichiari, during the Eucharistic celebration attended by doctors, employees and people of the place, the most beautiful lady made her apparition. All were aware of an extraordinary presence but only Pierina could see and hear her.
Mary, Rosa Mystica, asked for the practice of the devotion she had already recommended and emphasized: "My divine Son, tired by the incessant offenses, wanted to unload His justice, but I interposed myself as mediator between Him and men, interceding especially for the consecrated souls".
Pierina, the visionary, thanked Him in the name of all and she took her leave recommending to Him with majesty and tenderness: "Live of love... love your neighbor!"

Fourth apparition on November 16, 1947.

The apparition of Rosa Mystica to Pierina, in a parish church of Montichiari, was witnessed by several people, among whom there were some priests. Her message can be summarized in these words: "My divine Son Jesus and Our Lord is fed up with the many and serious offenses that are inflicted on Him for so many sins against the holy purity. It provokes Him to unleash a deluge of punishments... but my intercession has interposed itself so that He may have compassion once more, for this reason I ask for prayer and penance in reparation. I intimately beseech the priests to admonish men so that they do not continue in lightness. I will give my grace to those who help to explain these crimes."
Will we be forgiven then?" asked the seeress. The Mystic Rose answered, "Yes, as soon as they are stopped from committing them." And with these words she went away.
