After a gruelling 61 days at the wreckage, he and a teammate trekked for 10 days out of the mountains to seek help. This story became a worldwide sensation with the publication of Piers Paul Read’s bestselling chronicle "Alive," and the release of the Hollywood film of the same name. A Uruguayan television personality, amateur racecar driver, and successful businessman, Parrado leads a life that reflects the philosophy he developed as a survivor. This year he has told his own tale in the superbly readable memoir "Miracle in the Andes," and he brings this story of courage and survival to the 2006 Banff Mountain Festival.
