CRISPR is an example of nanobiotechnology because it integrates biological molecules, or "biomaterials," with the surface of nanomaterials for applications in healthcare and life sciences. In the case of CRISPR, an engineered nanoparticle is used as the delivery system to hold the enzyme and genetic material closely together and deliver them into the cells. This combination of biomaterials and nanoparticles is what makes CRISPR a nanobiotechnology system.
This video was produced by the Micro Nano Technology Education Center (MNTEC) in collaboration with UC San Diego and Omni Nano in an effort to support STEM education and spread awareness. A special thank you to Jason Barquero for his work on the voiceover. MNTEC is funded by the National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education program – grant number 2000281.
