Les Invalides is a complex in Paris, France, containing the Hôtel des Invalides, a hospital and retirement home for war veterans. Les Invalides is also known as "The Temple of Glory". The construction of the military complex began in 1670 and was completed in 1676. It has been a protected historic monument since 1908. The buildings on this site have been occupied since 1678 by the Ministère de la Défense Nationale, which currently occupies about half of the site, along with the Army Museum and other military museums.

Napoleon's tomb is located in the garden of Les Invalides near the École Militaire in Paris called the Dôme des Invalides (The Dome). Napoleon was a much loved man that had an illustrious military career, who died at St. Helena on May 5, 1821 at the age of 51.

Napoleon's body also lies within two coffins; one wooden coffin filled with black Spanish mantles and one made of lead, which bears the Imperial arms and his titles. His coffin is laid out under a saucershaped vault beneath a 24ton gilded bronze statue atop it, representing Napoleon as emperor, with an imperial crown on his head and cross in hand.

Napoleon's tomb is not the only one that lies within Les Invalides, there are also tombs of Empress Josephine Bonaparte, King Louis XVI, AndréAntoine Houdon and Jean Baptiste Lassus.

His tomb was constructed in 1840 and is located in Les Invalides in Paris, France. The construction of the tombs took approximately two decades to officially complete which occurred in 1861. Napoleon's Tomb was designed by architect Louis Visconti and sculptor James Pradier.
