“we’re both trying to build the same world” Ted Blackman

​​In the penultimate talk of Assembly 2023, CEO of the Near Foundation Illia Polosukhin and CTO of the Urbit Foundation Ted Blackman sat down for an unscripted discussion.
The conversation begins with the pair noting the complementary relationship between Urbit and blockchains, and the similar attitudes they take towards building flexible, open systems. They pay particular attention to the possibilities of using an expressive and performant chain like NEAR to provide an openentry global broadcast layer on Urbit and make a serious dApps that won’t permanently fall over forever when some massive corporation pulls the plug on their cloud hosting product.

They spend the rest of the talk exploring the possibilities of a fully featured Open Web stack: friendlier feeds, funnier AIs, and trustworthy infrastructure.
