Set in a 1930s block in the centre of Madrid, the aptly named Menta (meaning mint) features a very specific shade of pale green inspired by the one used by Prada since the 90s. The redesign involved relocating the kitchen to the central hallway, opening up the living area and creating a space for a custom floortoceiling modular bookshelf to house the client’s large book collection. Translucent polycarbonate pocket doors divide the living and kitchen space when needed, whilst still allowing natural light to pass through. A series of strategically placed mirrors throughout enhance the sense of light and space, the largest of which is a multipurpose wall of mirrors at the entrance, containing a door to the bedroom, the laundry, general storage and integrated fridge for the kitchen. Through carefully considered spatial strategies and consistent materials, the team at gon architects have created a light, open and, above all, functional space.
