Meet the Mercedes CLE!

It’s an allnew car that rolls up as a replacement for the CClass Coupe, CClass Cabriolet, EClass Coupe & EClass Cabriolet… That’s right, four cars rolled into one! The question is, does this approach offer enough to strike fear into BMW and Audi?

Well let’s take a look over the car. Starting with the design, it’s certainly pretty striking! Up top there’s a newlydesigned, big grille, which is flanked either side by newlydesigned, thinner headlights. Around the side you’ll find some cool alloy designs, and around the back Mercedes has gone for a simpler design than other new cars in its lineup… But that’s no bad thing! Sure, the side profile looks relatively similar to the outgoing CClass, but allinall there’s no denying this is a goodlooking car!

Step inside and the interior seems alltoo familiar to the current CClass. But just like the side profile, this is no bad thing, as the interior is absolutely gorgeous! Not only will you find a huge infotainment screen stretching up from the centre console to the dash, you’ll also be treated to a number of colour combinations, along with a cabin swamped with softtouch materials. This is one seriously impressive interior!

When it comes to engines, there are a number of petrol and diesel options to choose from. The entrylevel is the CLE 200, which is a 2litre 4 cylinder coupled with an EV motor to deliver around 200hp. The rangetopper will be the CLE 450, which should be able to deliver 381hp from a 3litre 6cylinder engine! It should also propel you to 60mph in about 4.4seconds.

What’s more, we expect an AMG edition to be unveiled in the future, which is likely to come equipped with the same 6cylinder engine that’s being developed for the forthcoming E63. With that in mind, we expect it to be able to produce at least 700hp!!

So what do you think, was this a masterstroke by Mercedes to combine these cars? Or should they have kept the C & EClass coupes separate? Let us know below!
