The Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) is the newest version of NCLEX that is set to release in spring of 2023. This new NCLEX exam will include big changes such as new question item types, a shift toward case studies (simulated nursing scenarios), and scoring methods that you'll want to know about as nursing students and nurse graduates.

The NCLEX exam is the licensing exam that nurse graduates must pass to practice nursing in the United States, Canada, and Australia. The Next Generation NCLEX sample questions will include 5 new question item types, including the following:

Extended multiple response NCLEX questions
Extended drag and drop NCLEX questions
Cloze (dropdown) NCLEX questions
Enhanced hot spot (highlighting) NCLEX questions
Matrix/Grid NCLEX questions

In addition, the NEXT Generation NCLEX (NGN) is moving to a new, polytomous scoring model, which will utilize a 0/1, +/, and rationale scoring method.

There will be a minimum of 70 questions and a maximum of 135 that are actually scored. However, when you include the nonscored pretest questions, there is a minimum of 85 questions and a maximum of 150 that you will actually take.
