Nicky NewtonKing is the former CEO of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), the largest stock exchange in Africa. Holding various executive positions for 15 years at the JSE before serving as CEO from 20112019, NewtonKing is recognized for her promotion of social and environmental accountability within South African businesses throughout her career.

In this video, NewtonKing describes the design and implementation of the JSE’s Socially Responsible Investment Index starting in 2004. Regarded as a model for other stock exchanges around the world, the index sought to set benchmarks for ethical, sustainable and transparent business practices in South Africa.
