The original version of Night Fever by Bee Gees is compared to the extended version of "The Salsoul Orchestra" released on the album "Salsoul Saturday Night Disco Party" in 1978 and finally in commemorative album of the 40 years of the orchestra in 2015. The song first appeared on the soundtrack of the movie Saturday Night Fever from 1977. Film producer Robert Stigwood wanted to name the film Saturday Night, but Robin Gibb expressed his doubts. A Stigwood liked the title Night Fever but it was risky for the market a film with that name. He combined the 2 suggestions and the idea for the new name Saturday Night Fever was born. "Night Fever" was the number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks in 1978. In addition, it replaced Andy Gibb's #1 song "Love Is Thicker Than Water" on the charts, which in turn was replaced by "If I Can't Have You» performed by Yvonne Elliman; All produced and written by the Gibb Brothers.
The Salsoul Orchestra was an orchestra led by Vincent Montana Jr., formed in 1974 in New York City and broken up in 1982. It was a background band for many of the artists on Salsoul Records. They had a style that blended Philly Sound, Funk and Latin into a nice, danceable disco style. The Salsoul Orchestra had up to 50 members including the instrumental section, arrangers and conductors. Members of this and the legendary Philadelphiabased group MFSB interspersed constantly.
