Night Vision Recorders - Grec NVG recorder vs BCO LPMR comparison

Cold Harbour Supply

Goons.Rec on the left
LPMR MK2 on the right
Audio is from LPMR. (really should have used the Goons audio...)

More detailed video review to come but in the meantime...

Analysis the Grec seemed to have better dynamic range while the LPMR had slightly higher gain. The audio on the Goons was much clearer as it had a microphone hole whereas the LPMR did not. Both use the Matecam chassis although I think each uses a slightly different CMOS and different picture profiles.

The Grec has a physical start/stop button as opposed to the LPMR which starts recording immediately when you supply power in 1 minute increments. While this might have been designed as an initial "feature" to ensure that it's always recording, in actual practice this amounts to two things: 1) essentially having to leave the device plugged in for an additional minute after you're done recording otherwise you risk losing the useful part of the footage you want. (if you disconnect power the very last clip becomes corrupt);
2) An absolute nightmare having to stitch the 1minute clips together if you are trying to make any use of the videos.

This video is not sponsored nor an ad. We were not paid by Grec and had to purchase the recorder ourselves.
