What is diamagnetic anisotropy? It is the nonuniformity of magnetic field due to pi electrons which may either produce shielding or deshielding effect on surrounding portions. In case of alkenes and aromatic compounds, it shows deshielding effect whereas protons attached to alkyne carbon are shielded resulting in decrease in the chemical shift.
