Magnus Carlsen disrespects Hans Niemann with a "nuclear" rook sacrifice in this absolutely insane chess game from the 2024 speed chess championships! It's no secret that Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann are not exactly "best friends," so when Magnus faced off against Hans in the 2024 Speed Chess Championships semifinals, he made sure to bust out all of his best tricks including the insane rook sacrifice from this game!

In the game Magnus Carlsen opens up with 1.b3 a favorite of Hikaru Nakamura and from there Magnus continues with a double fianchetto setup with his bishops on the b2 and g2 squares vs Hans Niemann. From there he continues developing and lines up his queen and his rook on the cfile in preparation for his absolutely insane rook sacrifice in this game.

Of course Magnus Carlsen's chance to sacrifice the rook came early when Hans Niemann played the move ...c5, trying to gain space on the queenside. However, little did Hans Niemann know this move would run into a nuclear rook sacrifice by Magnus Carlsen with the absolutely insane move Rxc5! From there the game was absolutely insane, with Magnus Carlsen being down the exchange (the rook for a minor piece and a pawn) for much of the game. However, in the end Magnus Carlsen managed to outplay his lower rated opponent Hans Niemann in the middlegame and the endgame!
